What is MDF?

What is MDF?

Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) is defined as an engineered wood product. The manufacturing process involves breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, which are then combined with wax and a resin binder. Finally, panels are formed using high temperature and pressure. The smooth sanded surface means it takes paint easily, allowing for various customisation options.

MDF is widely used for interior, furniture, and decorative applications because it’s smooth, uniform, and easy to machine. In fact, research indicates that approximately 48% of furniture manufacturers rely on MDF for customised and precision-engineered products.

Our MDF Products

Our MDF Products

Our MDF products have many variations depending on what you wish to use it for. This includes:

Moisture Resistant

Ideal for kitchens and bathrooms, our moisture-resistant MDF sheets are manufactured with special resins that resist swelling and warping when exposed to humidity.

Lightweight

This type of MDF is engineered to be lighter than standard MDF, making it easier to handle and install. It's perfect for projects where weight is a concern.

Fire Rated

Our fire-rated MDF meets stringent safety standards, providing increased fire resistance in construction and furniture applications.

Exterior Grade

Designed to withstand the elements, exterior grade MDF is treated to resist moisture and decay, making it suitable for outdoor projects. It's important to note, however, that proper sealing and painting are still required.

Formaldehyde Free

For environmentally conscious projects, we offer MDF with zero added formaldehyde, minimising VOC emissions.
