About Egger

Egger opened their first chipboard plant in St. Johan, Austria in 1961. Owned by the brother Michael and Fritz Egger, the Egger Group grew and grew throughout the 20th Century through a series of acquisitions, expansion and commissions.

In 1984 the group opened their first UK based plant in Hexham, Northumberland. Since then, the plant has been expanded and modernised, with significant investment making it one of the most technologically advanced in Europe.

In July 2005, after many years of us banging at the door, Egger appointed Lawcris as one of the main distributors of Egger products in the UK. Egger's reputation for high-quality product design and innovation has helped them to become an internationally leading manufacturer.

The focus is on a closed material cycle. In their pursuit of sustainability, Egger also uses recycled wood where possible when making their wood-based material reproductions, and advocates for sustainable wood recycling.

Egger has come a long way from the melamine faced boards they are well known for.

Laminates are now a huge part of their business and we are a huge believer in the Egger laminate range and the potential that it has.

Egger drive innovation in all areas, but is at the forefront of the UK Wood Panel Industry for alternatives to real wood.

Egger gives priority to the processing of wood from FSC® and PEFC™ certified forests. All wood purchased is monitored with a strict control process within the scope of the EUTimberReg and other forest certification systems.

Furthermore, Egger forestry plays an is increasingly important role in using environmentally sustainable products, procuring wood through their own forestry companies. This makes Egger a vital partner in the sustainable furniture industry. , meaning they can trace the origins of the wood all the way back to the tree.

Egger chipboard is also manufactured through the task of using sawmill by products such as round wood, sawdust and hack chips in Egger products to encourage a circular economy, and turn waste wood into chipboard core. Their Timberpak sites sourced waste wood for their two chipboard production sites in the UK.

Not only is this valuable service great for the environment, but it works towards maintaining strategic supplies of wood products for product development at Egger's plant. This means they can trace the origins of the wood all the way back to the tree.
