Spring has sprung slowly this year, but in the world of interiors, designers are looking ahead with an optimism reflected in everyone’s favourite new colour palette - ice cream.

Taken straight from the fashion runways into interiors the world over, pastel shades are one of this season’s biggest trends. Possibly a hangover from ever-prominent millennial pink, a wide variety of pastels are now being used in everything from throws to furniture. If you’ve already invested in millennial pink, don’t worry, this look will work perfectly with any existing pieces.

Pastels have been a spring decorating trend for some years, but in 2018 it’s specifically about the ice cream colours – think butter yellow, soft peach and minty green. Throw these colours together to create the perfect parlour palette.

Another element that differentiates this trend from previous years is the ultra-modern patterns that are emerging. Rather than chintzy florals and saccharine sweet frills, geometric shapes reign supreme. Imagine Miami Art Deco – graphic shapes and angles with accents of gold.

Soft yet vibrant, these fresh shades will enliven any space. However, if you want to break up the palette a little, woodgrain furniture in modern shapes does the job nicely. Painted wood surfaces and metallics also work beautifully. Alternatively, why not use a neutral vanilla or chocolate shade to balance out the brightness.

Not just limited to the bedroom and living room, this trend has been making an appearance in bathrooms too. Pastel pinks, mint greens and baby blues have all been increasingly spotted in the KBB world this year.
