What Is HPL Laminate?

HPL (high pressure laminate) is produced by saturating multiple layers of kraft paper with phenolic resin. A printed décor paper is placed on top of the kraft paper before pressing. It is then 'sandwiched', fusing it together under heat and pressure.

The process converts the paper sheets into a single, rigid laminated sheet which is water resistant and highly durable.

HPL is considered more hard wearing than melamine and can be a great alternative to a solid surface worktop for a fraction of the price.

What Are Laminates Used For?

Are Laminates Waterproof?

Many lamiantes are water resistant, as opposed to being completely waterproof. This is usually due to how the layers of craft paper are laid.

However, laminate surfaces are usually very water resistant due to their manufacturing process. This makes them perfect for covering furniture, floors, and use in family kitchen design.
